Nice Buildings

I’d like to salute a couple of recent buildings that I admire.  First off is Archie’s on N. Virginia at McCarron.   Sorry that this thumbnail is the only image I could find of the project.  It just looks cool to me.

The Downtown Reno Events Center turned out quite nicely (the Ballroom Less so).  Wish I had better images.

My favorite recent local project is the Sierra Nevada Job Corps campus in Stead.  Who would have thought that this public sector project would turn out so well.  Kudos to local SVWB Architects.

It is really worth checking out, especially if you are in the neighborhood for the air races later this summer.

So I’ve blown my cover as a modern industrialist.  These are three very well executed projects to my way of thinking.  You may object to my choices, and I’m sure you will!  But in keeping with trying to be positive, what recent buildings around here do you like and respect?

Mike, I’m a big fan of Anitra Drive in SW Reno. The boxy, red Ricardo Legorreta designed estate is world-class. The street also has two Will Bruder houses (The Arizona architect who designed the Nevada Museum of Art downtown.) The street also has a Mark Mack (Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley) designed home that has been published.

I’m partial to the Nevada Museum of Art building.

And I like your choices. Post-modern is one of my favorite architectural styles, and it’s encouraging to see those types of structures appearing here.

Puts the cookie cutter shopping malls to shame.

    Another McCarron, what the hell
