Old South SuburbanOn the south side of McCarran, down Lakeside Drive and over the hill, you’ll find what I call the Woodside of Reno. This delightful, horsey neighborhood features spacious rambling ranch homes on multi-acre lots, many with their own ponds, pastures and barns. The area backs to forest service land providing plenty of trail riding for local residents. For all you Californians who missed out on buying in Woodside, Portola Valley or Los Altos Hills back in the eighties, here’s your chance for redemption. This lovely rural neighborhood is five minutes away from the best shopping in Reno. The schools are very good. SaddlehornSpacious custom homes on large lots just off Mount Rose Highway. Many areas with walking paths, all custom homes. Nearby Callahan Ranch offers more properties, nicely spaced on multi-acre lots with horses allowed. Honestly it can be a real hodge-podge, a good place to look for remodelling projects. ArrowcreekArrowcreek is a popular, master-planned golf community with large custom, semi-custom and production homes. A newer development, residents enjoy a spacious clubhouse with tennis, pool and fitness facilities, along with paths, parks and designated open space. Many of the homes have dramatic views of the city and Mount Rose. Arrowcreek MontreuxPerhaps the most exclusive address in Reno, Montreux is a French Country inspired luxury, gated golf community at the foot of Mount Rose. It’s a lot like Truckee’s Lahontan, though a tad less expensive. The Montreux golf course is well-known and hosts the Reno-Tahoe Open each summer. Montreux Galena ForestLarge custom homes on acre+ lots at the foot of Mount Rose. Nestled in a lovely forest setting, many of the homes have been done in the Tahoe mountain architectural style. Driving around, you may forget you’re in Reno. St James VillageSt James is a wonderful, secluded community featuring large lots and architecturally designed custom homes. Tucked into the trees off Mt Rose Highway, this guard gated gem offers gorgeous wooded views of Mt Rose, Washoe Valley and the Virginia Highlands. |
