Central and Southwest Reno

Old Southwest

South of the Truckee River to Plumb, South Virginia to West McCarran. Old Southwest is absolutely charming. Cute cottage homes on tree-lined streets, some within walking distance to downtown and the riverwalk… it’s like Palo Alto before it became shi-shi. A handful of unique restaurants, shopping and galleries are starting to appear on California Avenue. You’ll find mostly single family cottages and older ranch homes with a few duplexes and small multifamily units in the mix. The schools are good. Just about every rehabber in town works this neighborhood, buying old places and fixing them up for resale.

Southwest

Plumb to South McCarran, South Virginia to West McCarran. This is an interesting, established area with lots of variety. Most are larger ranch homes from the 50s on up to the eighties and nineties as you get close to Caughlin Ranch. There are many pockets of property on 1-5 acres that still permit horses. The neighborhood developed rather organically up some of the hillsides, so you never really know what treasures you’ll find driving around. Many homes enjoy great privacy, though some have outstanding downtown views. The schools are very good. The neighborhood borders the best shopping area in town.

Lakeridge Shores

Probably one of Reno’s oldest gated communities. Very exclusive. The community has a golf course, tennis club and its own private lake. Waterfront property is available for a price. Many homes enjoy fabulous city views.

Downtown Condos

There’s more to downtown Reno than the Casinos. Just off the Truckee Riverwalk you’ll find shops, theaters, restaurants, cafes, a symphony, museums and frequent musical events in the park throughout the summer. There are a few established high-rise condos on the river, but more are in the works. Four large conversion projects are currently in progress, and two new projects are in the planning phases.
