West RenoThe west side of Reno is beautiful. Here you’ll find a wide array of established neighborhoods, each with its own distinct character, as well as a few newer ones perched on the base of the dramatic Carson range. Though there are many more wonderful places in the south, east and north sides of Reno and Sparks, the west side is typically where you’ll find the area’s most exclusive homes. Caughlin RanchCaughlin Ranch runs from West McCarran to the Truckee River. This is a beautiful planned development built in the 80′s and 90′s. An extensive network of paved walking trails connect the various neighborhoods and parks with the central clubhouse featuring fitness facilities, tennis courts, a sizable pool, and child care programs. The landscaping is gorgeous with lots of trees, grass and ponds throughout the development. It feels a bit like Danville, California. Caughlin Ranch has everything from small single family homes to luxurious custom mini-estates on large lots high in the hills overlooking the city. The two elementary schools serving this community enjoy the highest test scores in Reno. Juniper HillsBehind Caughlin Ranch, tucked into the pinion pines is this delightful neighborhood of mostly custom homes. Many are horse properties. Sidewalks you won’t find, giving this area a distinctly rural feel. It’s a quiet little haven close to town and very convenient to I-80. Closer to the Truckee River you’ll find a charming area of 50′s ranchers on spacious half-acre lots. Some homes have been beautifully updated while others need a little sprucing up. This neighborhood has so much potential and will probably appreciate significantly over time as more people buy in. This area is served by Caughlin Ranch schools. VerdiVerdi is a special little town just west of Reno off I-80. It’s the last outpost of civilization before driving to Truckee. Nestled on the shores of the Truckee River, Verdi is beautifully treed and gets real snow. There’s not much shopping, just a few local bars, a small market, giant Gold Ranch gas station, Jack-in-the-Box, Taco Bell, mobile home park and Boomtown nearby. You’ll find lots of horse property here. Verdi is rural, quiet and peaceful. It’s about 10 minutes to Reno and 25 minutes to Truckee. The schools are very good. |
