I came across a story recently about GarageTown USA. GarageTown USA develops condominium storage communities. What’s a condominium storage community? Intrigued, I visited GarageTown USA’s website to learn more. The site states that the GarageTown concept was developed to meet the growing necessity of homeowners to store items that would not fit in their homes and garages. However, typical self-serve storage units these are not. These high-end “garages” will cost you between $42,000 and $116,000. What do you get for those prices? Take a look at these typical amenities:
• Air Conditioning / Heating
• Individual Electric panel/meter
• Cable/Phone/Internet/Security System Pre-wire
• Dedicated RV receptacle
• 110 Volt Receptacle
• Electric door w/ Exterior Keypad
• Average ceiling Height 16’
• Man door on all 24’ wide units
• 16×14 Overhead Garage Doors (All units)
• Owner Clubhouse with Meeting Area
• Landscaped grounds
• RV dump station
• 24/7 Access
• Security Gate w/ Keypad
• Common Restrooms w/ shower facility
The website indicates existing GarageTown developments are located in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, and Washington. I couldn’t help but wonder why not Nevada, and more specifically, Reno. So I emailed Carri at corporate and asked if there were any plans to build a GarageTown condominium storage community in Reno. Carri replied that they are continually looking for new locations for GarageTowns, and that they’ve had a lot of interest for GarageTown USA’s in Reno. However, she stopped short of stating that GarageTown USA will be coming to Reno anytime soon. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.
Move to Reno?
Laughlin might make a better choice for a GarageTown given its reputation for being an RV destination.
