I came across a new website that allows homeowners to swap their house for another person’s. The site, Pad4Pad, allows homeowners to list their property along with the exchange criteria (location, price, etc.) they desire. I’m sure it’s not the only site out there providing this service, but it may be worth a look if this is something that interests you.
Out of curiosity, I plugged in Reno, NV to see what swappable properties were available. Unfortunately, my search returned only one property (see it here). Perhaps the site is still too new to have many people using it.
[Update July 5, 2008: In response to this post I had a couple people respond offblog about other sites that facilitate trading one’s home for another.]
The people at TradeYourHomeOnline.com sent me the following note:
"If you’re looking to trade your home, www.TradeYourHomeOnline.com is an additional no-cost website for homeowners and realtors alike. Your property will be given its own internet address, so that you can reference the listing from any other ad that you also place. This means you can upload all of your pictures ONCE to us, and reference them from as many places as you want."
I checked out the TradeYourHomeOnline.com site and searched on a Reno zip code. As was the case with the Pad4Pad site above I received only one result. This was for a home in Fernley. Check it out here. Looks like this person will trade their Fernley home to live in Arizona, Oregon, California, or elsewhere in Nevada. …apparently anywhere but Fernley.
And then there is always Craigslist, which has an area devoted to housing swaps.
