Local school information – SchoolFinder widget

I’ve just added a Local School Information widget to the blog. At the moment, I’ve placed it under the Local Market top-level menu item; then under Local School Information.  The information presented in the widget is provided by Education.com.  The numbers on the pins in the widget are the school’s test rating, a 1-10 percentile ranking indicating how well schools perform on standardized tests in comparison to other schools in their state.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

From the Education.com web site…

  • There are 112 K-12 schools in Reno, NV, including 79 public schools and 33 private schools. Reno public schools belong to three districts, State Charters School District, State-Sponsored Charter Schools School District and Washoe County School District.
  • There are 67 Reno elementary schools, 37 Reno middle schools, 31 Reno high schools and 65 Reno preschool schools.
  • There are 39 K-12 schools in Sparks, NV, including 31 public schools and 8 private schools. Sparks public schools belong to two districts, Storey County School District and Washoe County School District.

Are there really 41 high schools in Reno-Sparks?

Seems like a pretty cool site. I looked at several of the schools though and the test rankings were based on 2007 testing, which is a bit old.

I also like this site: http://www.schooldigger.com, its rankings are based on 2009/2010 test scores, which are pretty up to date, since the latest CRT test scores for the 2010/2011 school year were just recently released.
