World’s Tallest Climbing Wall and New “Urban Adventure Destination” Take Reno to New Heights at October 1 Grand Opening
RENO, Nev. (September 1, 2011) – CommRow will celebrate its grand opening on October 1, becoming Reno’s first “Urban Adventure Destination.” This property will inject a sample of the region’s outdoor thrills into the heart of Reno’s downtown corridor.
Towering 164-feet above the landmark Reno arch is the world’s tallest climbing wall on the 16-story building’s exterior façade. Inside, climbing enthusiasts or curious beginners will find a world-class bouldering center, plus event space and slacklines. The entire climbing facility, known as BaseCamp, is built to international competition standards but also first-timer friendly.
CommRow also features a menagerie of culturally-diverse eateries and bars dubbed “TheRow”, which were developed by two seasoned restaurateurs who have worked with such acclaimed chefs as Bobby Flay, Charlie Palmer and Bryan Voltaggio. Guests will find something to tempt any palate, from traditional tacos to fresh tuna tartars. Libations from classic cocktails to a selection of more than 100 tequilas can also be found. On the second floor, watch all of the bouldering action while enjoying either smoothies and housemade granolas, or wines by the glass and draft beers.
Two live entertainment venues known as Cargo and Centric will feature local performers and national touring acts. During the day, the 400-person capacity Cargo will transform into a fitness center with a focus on core training. Additional meeting and event space is also available.
Other attractions are slated to open in 2012, including the pet-friendly HANG Hotel in spring, and an outdoor “Adventure Deck” with BMX and skate parks, outdoor bouldering and more.
CommRow’s developer Fernando Leal of Chicago- and Reno-based L3 Development LLC states, “This is a huge opportunity to elevate Reno’s perception in the eyes of both locals and visitors alike, showcasing it for what it truly is – a vibrant, multi-faceted destination.”

I sure hope this place does better than the “new” Siena. I was in the Siena last week, before Street Vibrations, and it was dead. as. a. doornail. The waitress in the coffee shop said they are never busy. Said there are hours at a time when there is nobody in the shushi place. I counted 11 customers on the casino floor, 3 playing 21, and 8 playing slots.
Maybe a climbing wall will have more attraction that another unremarkable casino.

We’ll see. The first weekend will bring out all the curious. Next weekend will benefit from the Italian Festival. We’ll see how it’s doing in December.

@Cal I’ve heard a rumor from a highly reputable source the new Siena is losing roughly $400,000… a week.
You’d think the new owners would have learned a lesson from the old owners.

Gee, before you know it that could really eat into capital. LOL

If that is accurate, how long then before the Siena closes down, again? Nobody can lose $20,000,000 a year and last very long no matter what kind of great deal they got on the purchase price. That number sounds pretty high to me, but clearly there is really nothing new at the “new” Siena. All the talk about it being a ” 5 star” destination was laughable from the beginning. If things are bad in September, they are going to be far worse in January.

The person I talked to familiar with the situation noted that the owners are going to get in over their heads soon if nothing changes.
@Cal mentioned nobody was in the entire casino. Barely a soul. The overhead costs plus loans (I believe they invested $10 MIL in upgrades) with no solid income = massive losses.
Even with the ‘great deal’ they purchase the casino for, if the management team doesn’t know what they are doing, failure is the most foreseeable option.
