CAMPO to open in downtown Reno next month

Most of the recent buzz regarding downtown Reno has been about CommRow.  However another eagerly anticipated establishment is close to opening its doors as well.  I am referring to CAMPO, the newest restaurant from Chef Mark Estee, of Moody’s Bistro and Lounge (in Truckee, Calif.) fame.  CAMPO will be opening in the Palladio’s riverfront space at 50 N. Sierra Street next month.

CAMPO’s website has a little bit of info about the restaurant, however the site is clearly a work in progress – with “OPENING THIS FALL” and “WEBSITE COMING SOON” messages displayed.  For the restaurant’s latest updates check out its Facebook page.  I just visited its FB page and see that CAMPO’s opening party will be Wednesday, November 2 6:00pm – 9:00pm.  Sounds yummy.

I also read in this morning’s RGJ that CAMPO is hiring 30 employees today – see New Reno restaurant Campo will hire 30

Love to see the new development occurring downtown.  See Mike McGonagle’s recent Openings post for more.  And as always, for the latest updates regarding downtown Reno, follow DowntownMakeoverDude’s Downtown Reno Makeover blog.

A few interesting things to note about this restaurant:
    – Estee is the only chef in northern Nevada with a Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana certification.
    – The butcher block will be visible from Sierra Street windows in the Palladio, and passerbys will be able to see whole hogs transformed into various cuts of meat.
    – They claim it will be affordable ‘neighborhood’ style.
    – Fresh pasta hand made in the restaurant.
    – The salumi cave and pizza oven were imported from Naples, Italy. It was cool to watch them unload it when it arrived.
    – Each item will be made from scratch. Dough, made daily, is topped with fresh sauce, house made mozzarella and your choice of salumis, pancetta and other charcuterie treats all made in house.

I lived in Naples for a few months many years ago. Napolitan pizza is by far the best I’ve ever had. I simply cannot wait for this place to open. Reno does have some hidden jewels.

Mark Estes also owns Burger Me http://burgermetruckee.com/ which recently expanded from its Truckee base to a new outlet at I-80 / Robb / Sharlands in the old Tahoe Burger space. We’re lucky to have him here in the NW, and the new venture seems to be drawing nice crowds so far.

Can’t wait for Campo. A steaming bowl of fresh pasta in a spicy sauce for a reasonable price and a river view will get me off Lean Cuisine in no time!
