Downtown Reno gets a grocery store

For the first time in nearly 20 years downtown Reno will have a grocery store.  The Great Basin Community Food Co-op, Reno’s community-owned grocery store, will be opening its doors to the public tomorrow (Saturday) at its new location at 240 Court Street.

The Great Basin Community Food Co-op offers sustainably produced, locally grown food, health and beauty items, and bulk food.  This grocery store will be a welcomed and much-needed addition to downtown Reno.  And one sure to make downtown condo owners happy.

I visited the new co-op last weekend. Decent selections, a bit pricey and it was chaotic – they obviously rushed the opening and weren’t well-prepared. I bought some locally grown beef and if it’s as good as I expect, I’ll go back. The organic apples were very tasty.

If you’re heading westward on Court, you may drive right by it. Look in your side/rearview mirrors before you get to Arlington, you probably just passed it.
