Zillow’s negative equity map

Zillow now has an interactive map that displays the percentage of homes in a particular county or ZIP code that are in negative equity (see map below). Negative equity is commonly referred to as being underwater. The map also shows the delinquency rates of underwater mortgagees.

So how does Washoe County, Nevada fare? When I plugged in Washoe County, Zillow’s Negative Equity Map responded with:

  • 29 percent of the homes in Washoe County are underwater
  • 9 percent of those are delinquent

These numbers also place Washoe County in the top 10 percent of areas in the country with the highest percentage of underwater homes.

Current map data is based on Zillow’s fourth quarter 2013 data.

Thank you for the heads up, Walter. I’m not sure why Zillow showed different numbers when I initially ran Washoe County. I am now seeing the same numbers as you. I have correct the post above.
    Thanks again.
