Home Owners Do It in the Kitchen

100_6287 Look for digital calendars, recipe projection systems and home control systems to become the norm in new kitchens. The CABA Internet Home Alliance Research Council conducted a Digital Kitchen Study and presented the results at this summer’s Kitchen/Bath Industry Show.  (See the study’s report here)

Some of the findings include:
• 33% of homeowners watch TV in the kitchen
• 51% of respondents planning to remodel their kitchens in 2007 intend to include a television.
• 43% of those remodeling their homes want to surf the Web while in the kitchen.
• 33% of households reported that they currently keep their cell phones on the kitchen counter
• 50% of households reported they keep their phone chargers on the kitchen counter
• 37% of homeowners would like to check the weather from their kitchen
• 48% of children do their homework in the kitchen
• …however, 59% of parents would prefer their kids do their homework elsewhere
• Similarly, in homes with children, 43% reported doing arts and crafts in the kitchen. But 69% of all parents say they don’t want their kids doing arts and crafts projects in the kitchen

The CABA Internet Home Alliance Research Council is a cross-industry network of leading companies engaged in collaborative research to advance the connected home space.

some interesting numbers to say the least. 37% of homeowners want to check the weather from their kitchen? I find that odd considering Many kitchens are open to the great room/living rooms where there is already a tv in view!

However I think its been a pretty obvious trend the last 5-10 years that the kitchen has been transformed into the NEW family room, And spend a majority of their time in them. Wouldn’t this help explain the fact that the Most effective area in the entire house to remodel are the kitchen, and bathrooms.
