Somersett Trails System Signage Installed

100_6325 Since its inception the master planned community of Somersett has been touting the “more than 27 miles of natural and paved hiking and biking trails” located throughout the development.  However, ask a random resident where these trails are located and you were likely to receive responses ranging from “I don’t know” to “Trails? What trails?”

Well, wonder no more because signage has now been placed at the various trailheads throughout Somersett.  These markers not only identify the trail as part of the Somersett Trails System, but also denote the trail’s name and distance.

I had the opportunity to explore a few of these trails over the weekend.  My favorite: the Silver Willow Trail.  This fully paved trail follows a canyon all the way to Verdi.  Along the way the hiker is serenaded with the sounds of birds and (depending on the season) a babbling creek that flows beside the trail.  Most of the trails provide benches for resting along the way.

The Silver Willow Trail

I visited the Welcome Center and was told that maps for the entire Somersett Trails System will be available in about a month.

    FLUFF alert!

Actually, the Silver Willow Trail does not lead to Verdi as it is now defined. It leads to the Mortenson tract which is now Reno, planned to be Somersett Jr.

But if you take the hike, keep walking up Old US 40 (new E. 3rd?) to the the River Belle Market, talk to Jimmy, and buy one of the best New York steaks in the Meadows! And for you vegs, he also has a most excellent selection of Corn Nuts and Cheetos. Thirsty? Keep hiking to the Bar-M-Bar, sit a while, shoot some pool with some one who actually broke a sweat working today, smile a whole bunch chatting up the barkeep, and take a cab home back to Casa Stucco Median OOPS.

Hike, bike, or motor on over to the West Edge of Washoe. It might feel a lot like the place you left to be here.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fluff. We quiet ones need it after reading all y’all verbose and opinionated ones’ posts!

    🙂

To me, a “trail” isn’t paved.

An asphalt-paved path is not a nature trail, it’s a road!

Trail, road, beaten path, and points beyond is a good thing. Always liked the idea of getting away from it all. An added plus for some excercise and a few photos. A check in the box for Somersett.

Added three more trailhead pictures (above).

GreenNV, thanks for the correction on the Silver Willow Trail.
